1st Week: My journey started in a two-day exhausting travel from Iloilo to Palu, Indonesia taking up three airplane flights. Having not enough rest, I was deployed to teach in a public school named SDN Model Terpadu Madani. I was assigned to teach Mathematics in two sections in Grade 6. In this week, I was given the opportunity to observed how they conduct their flag ceremony, what are the strategies used by their classroom teachers in teaching, how their teachers exercised classroom management, and many more. But unexpectedly, I was requestedby one of the learners to teach extemporaneously because they were so excited already to listen to my teaching discussion. Amidst of language barrier because only few of them could understand English, I accepted his challenged and I was the one who continue the discussion of their classroom teacher. Thanks God that I have enough idea about Properties of Addition, which was their lesson that time.

2nd Week: My first and second day of this week begun in a formal demonstration teaching having instructional materials and lesson plan. I was given the chance to share to them how Mathematics is being thought here in the Philippines since they have different one. I used both Bahasa Indonesia and English also as my medium of instruction. I had also the chance to observed how they celebrate their Independence Day and Eid al-Adha thinking that most of their population were Muslims. This happened on Wednesday-Friday of this week. They used to kill cows as an offering sacrifice to Allah. This practice is called Quorban and the meat of the cows were given to the less fortunate people in the community.

3rd Week: After finishing my discussion last week, I started with another lesson which is Subtraction of Integers and I decided to apply the suggestions written by my mentors to the observation sheet provided. We were strolled around also by the coordinator of UNISMUH PALU to the beautiful and awesome tourist destination there. We had our “jalan-jalan” (means strolling) escapade in Gong Perdamaian Nusantara and Tanjung Karang. Aside of that, we were given the chance also to visit a certain school there for junior and senior highschool. We shared to them the importance of learning English for communication and as a subject. This week is the most enjoyable week for me.

4th Week: I had my final and rated demonstration teaching using SEAMEO rating sheet. We were featured also in their local newspaper their having my picture during my final demonstration teaching below the headline. Since this was our last week, SDN Model Terpadu Madani and UNIMUH Palu prepared a closing program for us. It was so painful in my side seeing that most of my pupils kept on crying during the closing program. The class 6A and 6B also prepared a farewell party wherein we went to the beach and eat to a famous restaurant there. I received also a work invitation from a private international school in Jakarta wherein they want to hire me immediately after I graduated. My roller coaster life there in Palu was such a blast that I don’t want to go back here actually in the Philippines because Palu has a special place in my heart already.
